The University of Ljubljana is conducting a series of user comfort trials to evaluate how different substrate materials influence the adhesion, comfort, compliance, and ease of application of PERSIMMON smart patches during physical activity.

For a wearable device to be truly effective, it must do more than collect data: it must stay in place, feel comfortable, and be easy to use. These are not secondary requirements. In demanding environments like sport, they can make or break a technology’s real-world adoption.

With this in mind, the University of Ljubljana team is running a dedicated series of trials in which participants wear different material variants of the PERSIMMON smart patch during treadmill running sessions lasting approximately 50 to 55 minutes. After each session, participants complete questionnaires to provide structured feedback on how each variant performs across four key dimensions: adhesion, user comfort, compliance, and ease of application.
The data collected will directly inform the ongoing development of the patch, helping the consortium identify which substrate materials and design configurations best meet the needs of users in active, real-world settings.

In parallel, discussions are underway within the consortium on various design options for the PERSIMMON patch, bringing together insights from materials science, electronics engineering, and user experience to refine the system ahead of further validation stages.
